Exhibitions, events, curiosities!

"Rome is a city of world-famous landmarks and hidden gems waiting to be unveiled... I've handpicked these locations and events so you can truly immerse yourself in the Eternal City, savoring every bit of the art, flavors, and vibrant atmosphere it has to offer!"

"1+1", the first exhibition dedicated to Relational Art
In the 1990s, a group of artists changed the way we understand art: instead of focusing solely on the work itself, they placed the relationships between people at the center. Art became an opportunity to meet, engage in dialogue, and share experiences. Since then, this approach, called Relational Aesthetics, has been considered one of the most important currents in contemporary art.
Its protagonists include Vanessa Beecroft, Maurizio Cattelan, Carsten Höller, Pierre Huyghe, Philippe Parreno, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and many others. To pay homage to this particular current, the first major exhibition dedicated to Relational Art, curated by international critic Nicolas Bourriaud, opens at the MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome (Via Guido Reni, 4a). The exhibition's title, "1+1," evokes the idea of encounter and collaboration: art is born when people come together and create something together. The spaces of the MAXXI become places of participation and experimentation.

Exhibition Villas and Gardens of Rome
With over 190 works, including paintings, views, drawings, and manuscripts, the guided tour of the exhibition "Villas and Gardens of Rome: A Crown of Delights" at the Museum of Rome recounts the evolution of historic villas and their gardens from the Renaissance to the 20th century.
Arranged into six chronological sections, the exhibition explores Renaissance models, Baroque splendor, 18th-century formal gardens, and English landscapes, culminating in the urban transformation of Rome as the capital and the birth of public gardens. Works by artists such as Van Wittel, Eckersberg, and Spadini restore the original appearance of spaces now lost or transformed, while multimedia displays explore architecture and social life. The guided tour offers a fascinating journey through art, nature, and history, celebrating villas and gardens as symbols of power, culture, and pleasure in Rome over the centuries.

Views Beyond Time
The Galleria Borghese presents "Views Beyond Time," a special project that opens the museum during special hours and offers the public an immersive visit experience designed to renew their perspective on the works, spaces, and history of one of the most emblematic sites of Italy's cultural heritage. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, "Views Beyond Time" takes visitors on a journey that intertwines art, history, and innovation, offering the opportunity to observe the evolution of the Galleria Borghese over the centuries.
Thanks to augmented reality, the museum reveals its various historical layers, recreating atmospheres, colors, and displays now lost, and making visible the transformation of the spaces and collections over time. The journey also allows visitors to virtually revisit works that were once part of the Gallery's collection, broadening the historical understanding of the museum and its history. Among these, the famous Gladiator, now preserved at the Louvre, is digitally reinserted into its original context, allowing us to understand its role within the historical exhibition and the value it had in building the identity of the Borghese collection.
